BIOGRAPHY Joan Berta is a professional facilitator, moderator, coach and speaker who has designed and delivered programs for such organizations as the Canadian Association of Family Enterprise (CAFE), Rotary International, Crime Stoppers International, Steel Service Centre Industry, United Way, Ontario Insurance Co-operatives, International Dry Cleaners Congress, and major firms such as IBM, Stelco, Deloitte & Touche, Merrill Lynch, Nesbitt Burns, to name only a few. Joan is also a trained Family Council Facilitator and has facilitated several family councils on behalf of families in business. Joan has been the National Executive Director of the Canadian Association of Family Enterprise since December of 1997. CAFE is dedicated to the well-being and understanding of the family in business. Joan's background has prepared her well for this position, having been one of the founders of an ongoing successful family business with her husband in 1986. Her background in international marketing and sales positions her well to understand the dynamics of the marketplace, as well as understanding the needs of CAFE members. She directs the role of CAFE towards providing added value for members. Joan's education and training includes an Honours Business Diploma, Mohawk College; Honours International Business studies, Wilfred Laurier University; Strategic Management studies, York University; Entrepreneurial Planning and Management studies, Canisius College, Buffalo, N. Y.; Moderator Training, RIVA, Boston and Renee Kaufmann, Texas; Family Council Facilitator Training, CAFE; Family Facilitator Training, BFF.; as well as numerous sessions on related consulting and coaching topics. She has over 20 years experience in international marketing and sales and has traveled extensively in Europe and Asia. Joan was the driving force in her family business, Applied Consumer & Clinical Evaluations, becoming the first ISO 9001 registered Research Company in North America, an honour they hold to date. Joan is an active member of several business and community organizations, as well as a consultant to educational and special interest groups.
